Birding place: Jerez de la Frontera - Montes de Propios, Sendero Casas del Quejigal

This route allows you to know and enjoy the different ecosystems present in the Montes de Propios of Jerez. You can walk through the most extensive of these systems: the Monte, with gall oak forests in the shady areas, and cork oak and wild olive forests in the rest. Located in the southeastern corner of the Jarda estate, on this route you will experience a difference in altitude of 350 meters, entirely along forest tracks with a comfortable slope.

Bear in mind that you have to make a reservation before going along this route. You can do so through the Ayuntamiento de Jerez website. Permissions are granted every weekend and official holidays, except from June until the 30th of September. There are always 60 people allowed per day.

The track is in decent condition, but in some parts you have to be careful with loose rocks. In wet conditions it can be a bit more complicated. Even on hot days, the hike should be relatively comfortable thanks to the many shades segments, but it is highly recommend to take water.

Most bird species will be heard rather than seen. Expect to observe the most common Tit species and don't forget to scan the sky for birds of prey like Griffon Vulture and different species of Eagles. Be also prepared to see Deer or Boar, although chances are low.

There is enough space to park behind the entrance gate, which the park keeper will open for the visitors upon arrival at the determined time. This route is highly recommended if you are looking for a varied landscape and if you are in good condition.
