Zebra Finch

This species is so underestimated. They are just precious little birds. They were the first to breed at our facilities. We usually keep them in separate cages, but a single Zebra Finch can also get on well with birds in a mixed collection in a large aviary. We have had no problems with that.

We have had a few dead birds, killed by a still unknown predator. The most likely option is that it was a rat. Several male birds that were bred at our facilities were killed at night and found half eaten in their cage or nest box the next morning. Since we installed extra netting and laid poison the attacks have stopped.
