This morning I decided to go to one of my favourite locations to test our new gear, the Canon 90D. I knew the lagoon would still be without any water so I didn't expect to see any wader birds, but at any time of the year there are always enough other species present. A lot of small birds usually hide in the reed beds, so it was a good opportunity to test the auto-focus capabilities of this new camera.

Male European Stonechat |
It will take some time to get used to the advanced auto-focus system, but it is clearly a great step upward compared to the Canon 450D. Combined with the Sigma 150-600 it will allow me to take some great images without any doubt. I already noticed that especially for shots of birds in flight it will do a great job. |
Marsh Harrier |
The images I got today were usually not sharp at all, but that's due to my inexperience with this new camera rather than the camera's limitations. |
Booted Eagle |

Spotted Flycatcher |

Melodious Warbler hiding in the bushes |
There were a lot of dragonflies, which were an easier target to photograph than fast moving birds with this advanced focusing system. The results would have been better with a shorter lens, but for a massive tele-photo they weren't bad at all.
I am looking forward to the Global Bird Weekend next week.
