BIRDING TRIP: Sugar Factory ruins, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain

One of the best places in the province to observe a breeding colony of White Storks can be found just outside of Jerez de la Frontera, in the rural town El Portal. It is not the friendliest-looking neighbourhood but the old sugar factory 'Azucarera Jerezana' is surely worth a visit to watch these beautiful birds.

The birds sit on their nests that they have built on top of the walls of the old factory. A lot of good opportunities to take good photos if you can zoom in with a decent lens. If you do want to walk around then beware of the aggressive dogs that are kept by some of the neighbours.

Later in the afternoon it started to rain slightly. It stayed dry during my short visit but due to the overcast sky I decided to take some high key photos.

Alongside the storks I also saw a small flock of Jackdaws.
