BIRDING TRIP: Guadalmesí Route, Tarifa, Spain

We set off very early in the morning to arrive around 8:30 PM at the beginning of this route at the recreational area of El Bujeo, near Tarifa. On the way we had seen the sun come up and shine through some foggy patches, which resulted in very picturesque landscapes.

Although half the distance of the path we followed was covered with trees and bushes, reason why the visibility was sometimes quite limited, there were a whopping five new species that we observed for the very first time!

Iberian Grey Shrike

Those five species were: Iberian Grey Shrike, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Bonelli's Eagle, Rock Bunting and Cirl Bunting.

Apart from the 24 bird species, it is also worth mentioning that we observed a lot of different plants and trees, and some magnificent butterflies, among which the endangered migratory Monarch Butterfly.
