Today around noon I went back to the place where I spotted a Grey Heron one day before. I couldn't believe my luck when I saw this majestic bird in exactly the same spot, overlooking a small pond. I was pretty sure there was fish in the pond, why else would the Heron be here? Grey Herons can be extremely shy and will fly off as soon as they hear something suspicious, but not this one. It allowed me to take some photos as near as ten metres.
I was in no hurry, but I didn't have to wait a long time before I could take some really spectacular action shots. The bird flew to the other side of the pond, where it overlooked the water for a while until it launched itself in order to catch a big fish.

The fish got impaled with lethal precision |
The bird then manoeuvred the fish into the correct position before swallowing it as a whole.

Ready to swallow, head first |

All the way down through its throat |

A happy Grey Heron! |

Delicious lunch that was! |
