BIRDING TRIP: Isla de Tarifa, Cadiz, Spain

The weather on the Island of Tarifa was significantly different compared to what we had at our facilities more inland, where temperatures nearly reached 40 degrees. In this utmost southern part of the peninsula it was extremely windy the whole morning and I experienced cold for the first time this summer.

One of the 700 Black Kites that were seen

Most birds at sea were too far away to take decent photos, but large groups of Black Kites gathered in an attempt to cross the Straight towards Morocco. It sure was a risky mission with a very strong easterly wind possibly blowing them off course.

Friendly but shy stray dog, living on the island

Due to the unexpectedly hostile weather conditions this morning, the observation was limited to just two hours.
