You normally don't go birdwatching with expectations to run into a low-flying bird of prey. I actually went out to test the remote trigger system, which positively surprised me, because its reached does seem to go over fifty metres. Unfortunately, the bird that I had hoped to photograph up close, didn't perch in the exact correct spot. I knew a pair of Stonechats live in this area near the Medina Lagoon, but after an hour waiting I gave up. The birds have come pretty close, but I had put my camera on a tripod focussing on one specific metal pole where they often perch. Alas, not this time, but now I know the remote trigger won't let me down the next time I go out for another experiment.
The star of the noon was a Buzzard that revealed its presence and position right above me by its intriguing call. Luckily, I didn't have my camera on the tripod at that time. The bird seemed curious to see what I was doing and came sufficiently close to allow me to shoot some decent portraits. I was a bit confused at first since I clearly heard the call of a Buzzard, but then a second large bird appeared which turned out to be a Booted Eagle.
