BOOK REVIEW: Birds' Eggs

The major part of this book consists of descriptions and life-size visualisations of birds' eggs, accompanied by species accounts with brief descriptions of breeding, range, egg and clutch size, and which sexes incubate and for how long. Next to the photo of the eggs there is an small image of the bird which shows its size relative to the egg. In total over 500 eggs are featured. A lot of birds lay eggs that hardly differ from others.

The variety in birds' eggs is enormous, as to colour as well as shape. To make things even more complex, several bird species lay eggs of different colours. The first chapters of the book explain the reasons why eggs have a specific shape or colour.

Of course this is not a book to read from beginning to end but rather a handy collection of clear photos and useful data. At the back of the book there is an index which contains the birds whose eggs are featured in this book.

With each birds species included in this book comes a description and photo of its eggs, as well as the range where they can be found and their typical breeding habits.

A nice book for your collection, but very specifically focusing on eggs.

What I liked about it:
