BOOK REVIEW: RSPB Spotlight Kingfishers

Is this book as good as the wonderful photos on the front cover make us believe?

The Kingfisher must be one of the most beautiful birds, but not everyone has had the luck to see one. Most people do not know a big deal about their life or behaviour. This book gives us a great insight into how these lovely colourful creatures live.

The author writes about all the different members of the Kingfisher family. Interesting to know that there are a lot more than the one we see on the front cover, the Common Kingfisher, which is familiar to most people. He continues to talk about how we can tell the differences between the sexes, where they live, how they feed, what habitat they prefer and discusses the different stages of their lives. A pleasure to read throughout.

Like the other books we possess in the RSPB Spotlight series, the size is always an issue. Being a very informative book with a clear writing style, this would have scored five stars if it had been larger so that the photos could have been appreciated more, because that is what they deserve.

After reading this book, you can't help falling in love with this wonderful bird. If you want to know more about this amazing species, you won't probably find a better book. Highly recommended!
