Kentish Plover volunteer programme update

Yesterday Celia and I attended the volunteer group meeting in Rota to see how the breeding Kentish Plovers are doing. Some eggs have disappeared, possibly due to an assault by a Magpie. We also found very small tracks in the sand, which might reveal that some Plover chicks have hatched.

At this moment, these are the numbers in Rota:

  • Corrales beach: 3 nests: 3, 2 and 2 eggs respectively
  • Military base beach: 3 nests: 3, 3 and 2 eggs respectively

People and dogs are still a huge threat to our breeding friends.

We will keep you updated,
Henry.
