Although Costa Ballena is a huge holiday residence area, it is home to a lot of feathered friends, all year round. Sadly enough, constructions of new houses, flats and hotels seems to be going on forever, until ultimately everything will be full. Apart from the summer months, this place is very quiet and offers plenty of opportunities to see a whole range of interesting birds, among which Kingfisher and White-headed Duck are probably the most attractive ones.

The area offers two artificial lakes which are connected by a canal. Even non-birders will enjoy a stroll around this place, which is always kept perfectly clean. Our usual route is almost five kilometres long and garantees the sighting of at least thirty different species, whichever season. Passerines can still be found in the bushes, especially during spring, but that might change as more hotels are bound to be built.
In spite of the huge number of flats and hotels, Costa Ballena is well worth a visit for birdwatching, thanks to its quietness and the abundance of parking space.
