In between a couple of rainy days, I thought yesterday was a great time to go the the Torrox Lagoon in search of a few species that had been reported recently to add to my life list. I was lucky to spot a few Red-crested Pochards.
Male Red-crested Pochard
White-cheeked Pintail
Another formation of Glossy Ibis
Cattle Egret wandering through the grass
Cattle Egret
Another Cattle Egret willingly posing
Part of the flock of 22 Cattle Egrets
Pure elegance!
Male House Sparrow
Turtle Dove
Male Goldfinch
Common Waxbill
A pair of Common Pochard
After the last days' rainfall the level of the lagoon had clearly risen. I noticed a spectacular number of Carps swimming near the place where people feed the ducks. It remains to be seen if this invasive species will have a devastating effect on the lagoon, similarly to the situation in the Medina Lagoon, where they all seem to have disappeared now due to the drought of last summer.
Literally a ton of Carps
Looking forward to going back to this place soon. Spring is just around the corner!
